Social programme
An interesting social programme is being organised by the Local Organising
Committee for conference attendees and accompanying persons. You may also
be interested in looking around the city of Sheffield on your own - check out the
virtual web tour at
Sheffield tourism!
Peak District activities - Sunday 6 August
Amongst other social activities, it is planned that for those arriving before the conference
we shall be organising opportunities to go walking or rock-climbing in the Peak
District National Park. The Peak District is only 15 minutes
away from the University by road and there is also a railway service along the picturesque Hope Valley in the
direction of Manchester. For information about the Sunday walk, and how to
join it, click here.
Conference Dinner and Tour - Wednesday 9 August
His Grace, the Duke of Devonshire has graciously consented to the conference
dinner being held at Chatsworth House,
family seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
Chatsworth House is situated in the magnificent landscape of the
Peak District National Park, and can be seen in the film Pride and
Prejudice released in 2005.
There will be a tour of Chatsworth House
before the dinner. The tour is optional but is
highly recommended: Chatsworth House is perhaps the most magnificent
palace besides Buckingham Palace in the whole country. The cost of the house
tour is 17 pounds.
Yvonne Elsworth will give a talk in celebration and memory of George Isaak
on the occasion of the
conference dinner.
Other activities
More details will be posted here nearer the date of the conference.
